BINTULU (Aug 28): Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS) and Konsortium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB) recently participated in Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali’s (Unissa) 15th Hafl Al-Takharruj convocation ceremony in Berakas, Brunei Darussalam.
A press statement said the move is another step forward in building stronger academic and strategic ties across the Borneo region.
UPMS director and KUUB chairman Prof Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini, who represented the UPM vice-chancellor, was present with UPMS head of administration Noor Hakim Ahmad and KUUB honorary chief secretariat Fakhzan Buang.
The UPM Sarawak delegation also held strategic discussions with Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPUSB).
Both entities explored opportunities for collaboration in academic development, leadership training, and community engagement that will benefit students and communities in the region.
“This collaboration reflects our commitment to strengthening regional academic networks that support knowledge sharing, human capital development, and inclusive education for Borneo,” Shahrul said in the statement.
He said KUUB’s presence at the prestigious event underlined the consortium’s role as a unifying platform for higher education institutions in Borneo.
He added the collaboration aims to create more opportunities for research partnerships, joint programmes, and capacity-building initiatives that align with regional development needs.
Shahrul said by deepening partnerships with institutions like Unissa and KUPUSB, UPM Sarawak and KUUB will continue to position themselves as key players in driving innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth for the academic and socioeconomic advancement of the region.
