BINTULU, 5 August 2026 – Learning STEM became an exciting hands-on experience for students of SMK Asyakirin through STEM Discovery@SMK Asyakirin Series II, conducted by a team from Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS) in collaboration with Sakura Ferroalloys Sdn. Bhd. and SMK Asyakirin.

 

Through three main themes - Science & Discovery, Technology & Engineering, and Mathematics & Computational Thinking — students explored STEM concepts through interactive activities designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and problem-solving.

 

From Candle Quest, Sunscreen Screening, microscopy and DNA exploration to robotics, coding, electric circuits and Drone Circles, students were given opportunities to learn by experimenting and discovering how STEM concepts connect with real-life applications.

 

Mathematics and computational thinking were also brought to life through Binary Beads Bracelet and the Railway Cargo Challenge, combining learning with creativity and game-based problem-solving. The programme was held in conjunction with the officiating ceremony of the Library and STEM Corner at SMK Asyakirin, officiated by The Honourable Datuk Dr. Annuar bin Rapaee, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Sarawak.

 

The newly established STEM Corner complements the hands-on activities by providing students with a dedicated space to continue exploring and developing their interest in STEM beyond the programme.

 

Through initiatives such as STEM Discovery, UPM continues to bring STEM beyond the classroom — encouraging young minds to experiment, question, create and explore. STEM is not just something to learn. It is something to experience.
