21 May 2026 - Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak in collaboration with Sakura Ferroalloys Sdn. Bhd. successfully organised the Sakura Ferroalloys–UPMS STEM Discovery 2026 programme at SMK Assyakirin on 21 May 2026, bringing together 58 Form Four students for an exciting day of hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning activities.

 

Held from 8.00 a.m. to 12.40 p.m., the programme aimed to cultivate students’ interest in STEM through interactive and experiential learning. Participants were divided into 10 groups and rotated through a series of engaging activity stations specially designed to promote creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation.

 

Among the featured activities were Math Map, Drone Exploration, Robot Challenge, Sunscreen Screening, Candle Quest, Magnetic Experiments, DIY Innovation, Binary Beads, and Edupico activities. Each station introduced students to different STEM concepts in a fun and approachable manner, allowing them to explore science and technology beyond the classroom environment.

 

The programme also highlighted the importance of university–industry–school collaboration in strengthening STEM education among younger generations. Through initiatives such as STEM Discovery 2026, students were exposed to real-world applications of STEM and encouraged to consider future studies and careers in science and technology-related fields.

 

Organisers expressed hope that the programme would inspire students to develop greater confidence and curiosity in STEM disciplines while fostering essential 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

 

The event concluded with a closing session and group photo, marking the successful completion of another impactful STEM outreach initiative in Bintulu.
