Dr. Keeren Sundara Rajoo, the Head of the Borneo Biodiversity Laboratory at Institute of EcoScience Borneo and a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia Kampus Bintulu, recently served as a visiting lecturer at Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo NODAI).
On 19th November 2024, Dr. Keeren delivered a lecture titled Challenges and Issues Pertaining to Tropical Soils to an audience of around 150 agricultural degree and postgraduate students. With most students accustomed to the dynamics of temperate soils, the class offered a fresh perspective on the unique characteristics and challenges of tropical soils.
The interactive session saw active participation, with several students expressing a keen desire to explore research opportunities and careers in tropical soil science. This exchange also helps in fostering global collaboration and understanding between tropical and temperate regions.
Dr. Keerens lecture reflects Universiti Putra Malaysias commitment to addressing global agricultural and environmental challenges, as outlined in the Vice-Chancellors UPM Food Security Blueprint 2024. The blueprint emphasizes advancing food security through innovation, sustainable practices, and collaboration. By sharing his expertise, Dr. Keeren not only deepened academic ties between UPM and Tokyo NODAI but also fostered cross-regional dialogue, contributing to shared solutions for global agricultural sustainability.
