DEAN GREETINGS
Greetings. I extend my highest appreciation for the opportunity to welcome you to the official website of the Faculty of Humanities, Management, and Science (FKPS) at Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS).
Established through a restructuring process of UPMKB that began in 2018, FKPS officially commenced operations on July 1, 2020. The faculty comprises two main departments: the Department of Social Sciences and Management and the Department of Science and Technology. As a faculty within a research university located in Borneo, FKPS is committed to contributing expertise through research and policy advisory services, aligning with the aspiration to lead in education based on social sciences and technology.
FKPS offers a variety of academic programs designed to meet current and future needs, including:
All these programs aim to produce competent and competitive graduates.
In line with the commitment to holistic student development, FKPS enhances academic excellence through the improvement of soft skills, leadership, and active involvement in co-curricular activities supported by the Centre for Co-curriculum and Student Development. Furthermore, the faculty has developed special modules aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including quality education (SDG 4), health and well-being (SDG 3), and clean and renewable energy (SDG 7). For example, the Master of Renewable Energy (MRE) program—the first master's program of its kind in Sarawak—will be introduced at the end of 2025. This program targets the development of modern curricula such as drone technology, green engineering, and wind energy, in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Plan 2030 and the state's sustainable development goals.
FKPS also strengthens its global dimension through internationalization initiatives such as Summer School, international short courses, student and lecturer exchanges, as well as curriculum development in collaboration with foreign institutions. We are also actively organizing international lectures and academic visits, sending FKPS experts to deliver discourses at the global level, thereby enhancing the faculty's reputation as a center for quality research reference.
As a faculty within a research university, FKPS aspires to provide a learning environment responsive to the needs of industry, society, and environmental changes. We remain focused on high-impact research that makes tangible contributions to state policies and sustainable development. Students and staff are encouraged to participate in community programs related to the SDGs and international mobility. In addition, strategic collaborations with agencies and global experts continue to be strengthened to expand professional opportunities and global networks.
With the hope that FKPS will continue to shape dedicated graduates, independent researchers, and global leaders, I welcome your presence into our community. May this site provide a comprehensive overview of the faculty's academic programs, research, and activities.
Thank you.
