Assalamualaikum W.B.T. and warm greetings. Welcome to the official website of Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak.

Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS) is the oldest university institution in East Malaysia, with its origins dating back to 1974 as the Semenggok Agricultural Institute in Kuching. In 1987, UPMS was officially relocated to Bintulu, Sarawak, where it remains today. Over the years, UPMKB has undergone numerous transformations to align with the evolving needs of national education, the state of Sarawak, and the Borneo region. From its humble beginnings offering only two diploma programs, UPMS has expanded significantly, now offering 9 Diploma programs, 4 Bachelor's degree programs, and 51 research-based Master's and PhD fields of study. Additionally, the campus provides Pre-Diploma programs for students who may have missed mainstream higher education opportunities.

UPMS stands as the only Research University in East Malaysia, operating in tandem with its main campus in Serdang. Continuous efforts are being made to elevate UPMS to an internationally recognized campus. In 2020, three new entities were established to strengthen UPMS’s role as a hub for research and education. The Institute of Borneo Ecosystem Science (IEB) was founded to spearhead impactful research particularly in agriculture and forestry. Additionally, two new faculties — the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences (FSPH) and the Faculty of Humanities, Management and Science (FKPS) — were launched to support UPMS's academic restructuring initiatives.

To ensure excellence in development and administration, UPMS developed its Strategic Plan 2019–2023, focusing on five core thrusts: Agriculture, Forestry, Renewable Energy, Industrial Chemistry, and Socioeconomic Studies. These strategic areas are aligned with current industry demands and expectations for a skilled and capable workforce. UPMS takes pride in producing graduates of high quality and employability.

In line with our motto, "With Knowledge We Serve", we are deeply committed to contributing our expertise through strategic partnerships with industry and society. The entire UPMS community is actively engaged in high-impact programs, community development, technology transfer, and outreach initiatives. We believe that the balanced application of knowledge will foster meaningful progress — both for UPMS and the surrounding community.

Our serene, green campus is one of our unique strengths, providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning. Through the harmonious blend of academic excellence and enriching co-curricular activities, our students and graduates are well-prepared to face the challenges of the future.
