Bintulu, Sept 28, (UPM) - Congratulations to Dr. Osumanu Haruna Ahmed, Lecturer at the Department of Crop Science, FSPM, UPMKB and his research team for their success in winning two medals in the research competition carried out at Malaysia Inovation Expo (MIExpo) 2013 held recently at the University Putra Malaysia Serdang.
Dr. Osumanu and his team have exhibit two results of their research entitled Sustainable Technology for Increasing Rice Yield and Maximizing Yield of Crops by Reducing Phosphorus Fixation in the same category of Fundamental Research, in which both research took home silver and bronze medals.
According to Dr. Osumanu, "the idea of the producing of both researches is to use agricultural waste such as rice straw and saw dust to produce organic fertilizer that capable of inculcating quality of the soil, causing the tree to grow well and increase agricultural yield while reducing cost and saving environment." Dr.Osumanu added that, "he and his team had used about 10 months to complete the research in Sustainable Technology for Increasing Rice Yield and six months in the research in Maximizing Yield of Crops by Reducing Phosphorus fixation."
When asked to Dr. Osumanu about his feelings, "he stated that he was very happy and thankful that this study was completed successfully and it is something to be proud when he was being able to contribute something to the community in the form of knowledge. He also reminded to be successful in anything do not easily give up, be sure to have good intentions and it benefits the community."
Dr. Osumanu also expressed, "thanks to two PhD students that under his supervision Palanivell Parumal, in his first year of study and Ch'ng Huck Ywih in his third year of study, because they are the people who worked tirelessly to ensure that the both research succesful. Palanivell Parumal said, "high effort and work hard that lead the research to success." Meanwhile, Ch'ng Huck Ywih states, "to be successful we need to believe in our own ability, motivated and produce something that can contribute to innovation.” Both of these students have stated that, "without the guidance and support from Dr. Osumanu they may not achieve this success."
At the end of the interview session, "Dr.Osumanu also likes to thank especially to UPMKB for giving strong support and provide complete facilities so this research carried out smoothly. The thanks also go to UPM in general and the Department of Higher Education to have provided financial support for this research through the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) and Exploratory Research Grant Scheme (ERGS). Dr. Osumanu and his team will bring these two research to "BioMalaysia 2013" in Johor undertaken internationally that to be held soon.
