UPMKB SHOWCASES ZERO WASTE AND SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES TO KEAA AND IRDA DELEGATES

On 17 June 2025, the Institute of EcoScience Borneo (IEB), UPMKB had the honour of hosting delegates from the Kyoto Environment Activities Association (KEAA) Japan, and the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), as part of a knowledge-sharing visit coordinated by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA).

The visit served as a platform for exchanging insights on environmental resilience and sustainability, while also observing ongoing collaborative efforts that support Bintulu’s transformation into a low-carbon, sustainable city. Dr. Keeren Sundara Rajoo presented the Towards Zero Food Waste in Bintulu project and other waste management initiatives conducted by IEB in partnership with BDA.

Also representing UPMKB were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Leong Sui Sien, who spoke on plastic waste management, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Geoffrey James Gerusu. The delegation included Mr. Nobuhiro Okubo and Ms. Migiwa Takahashi from KEAA’s International Division; Puan Kamisah Mohd Ghazali, Head of Resilient Environment at IRDA; Ms. Daisy Harry, Vice President of Social Development at IRDA; and Mdm Lydia Soloma Jalong from BDA.

We thank our visitors for their meaningful engagement and look forward to continued collaboration in advancing a more sustainable Bintulu, and Malaysia as a whole.
