KEEP DOORS OPEN TO RURAL FOLKS, UPMKB TOLD

MIRI: Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) has been asked to ‘adopt’ Kampung Kelulit to benefit the future and development of the rural community, especially the youth.

In suggesting this, Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus explained that since UPMKB is known for its expertise in education, keeping its doors open for Kampung Kelulit to take part in any of its programme could help the development of the village’s community.

She said this when officiating at the UniMadani Community Empowerment Project equipment handover ceremony for the quail project at Kampung Kelulit on Monday.

“UPM is known as the brand for agriculture among the people, besides its additional role as the centre for plant-breeding.

“Therefore, the university’s introduction of quail farming knowledge into the community allows participants who lack expertise, knowledge or experience in this field to learn and strive for a good future,” she said.

The Bekenu assemblywoman said this was a great opportunity, particularly for those who are interested to gain knowledge, because not everyone could enter and study in UPM.

“The participants’ dedication and positive reception will ensure this project effectively achieve its objectives. Besides, their interests and active participation would also motivate UPMKB staff members to thoroughly explain quail farming activities,” she added.

The ‘Empowering Community Socio-Economics Through Quail Farming Phase 1’ programme, which ran from Aug 8, gathered 20 representatives from Kampung Pejuang Kelulit, Kampung Belunu Kelulit, Kampung Sulap Lada Kelulit, Kampung Pulau Untong Kelulit and Kampung Labau Kelulit, and was meant to benefit the community through the expertise of UPMKB.
