Recycling in Malaysia remains challenging due to low awareness, inconsistent waste separation, and limited systems for tracking recyclables. As a result, many valuable materials still end up in landfills, increasing disposal costs and environmental impacts.
KitarNow is a practical digital platform designed to help organisations record, manage, and track recyclable waste in a simple and user friendly way. Through the app, schools, businesses, and institutions can log recyclable materials by category and weight, monitor their recycling progress over time, and support a local circular economy by enabling direct connection with recycling companies for collection arrangements.
KitarNow is developed by Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS) and is implemented in partnership with the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA). The project is funded by an Extra Budgetary Contribution from the Government of Japan through the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT). By improving data, participation, and coordination, KitarNow supports a cleaner and more efficient recycling system for Bintulu.
