Bintulu, 14 April 2025 – A significant step toward advancing academia-industry collaboration was marked by a strategic meeting between the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB), and BBC Estate VII Sdn. Bhd. The session, held to explore potential partnerships, underscored shared interests in education, research, and livestock management.
The UPMKB delegation was led by Associate Professor Dr. Juriah Kamaludeen, Deputy Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies, accompanied by Dr. Bura Paul Thlama, Senior Lecturer in Ruminant Medicine, along with student representatives from the Department of Animal Science and Fisheries.
Discussions centred around several key areas of collaboration, including industrial training (Latihan Industri) placements for diploma students, sponsorship of student excellence awards, undergraduate scholarship opportunities, and research funding for postgraduate studies on sustainable ruminant livestock nutrition using palm oil by-products.
The meeting also highlighted student training initiatives under the Service-Learning Malaysia–University for Society (SULAM) programme, specifically focusing on Malaysia Good Animal Husbandry Practices (MyGAHP). Other potential areas of cooperation include the development of a ruminant herd health management guideline and support for cattle breeding programmes.
This collaborative engagement signifies a promising foundation for a long-term partnership that will benefit both academia and industry, particularly in promoting innovation, practical skills development, and sustainable agricultural practices.
